Ghost Town (and Star Trek, sort of…)

by wil — Jun. 30, 2009

My wife and I recently rented Ghost Town, starring Ricky Gervais (a.k.a. David Brent, from The Office), Greg Kinnear, and Téa Leoni. We loved it. We laughed our way through the whole movie. Ricky Gervais is hilarious as a misanthropic dentist who dies on the operating table, comes back to life, and can suddenly see ghosts. Greg Kinnear is the primary ghost, and Téa Leoni is his still-living wife.

The movie reminded both of us of Groundhog Day — in a good way. It’s well-written, well-directed, a bit thought-provoking, and the supporting cast is excellent (Kristen Wiig of SNL fame is particularly funny).

For what it’s worth, RottenTomatoes gives Ghost Town 84%. But you have to take RT’s rating with a grain of salt. I mean, the new Star Trek film got 95%! Based on its RT rating, Star Trek is an absolute must-see. Let me assure you, it’s not. I’m a sci-fi nerd, and I thought it stank. Big time. Stinky.
