Jan. 2011 – This is a personal blog; a place to keep track of my comings and goings, books read, opinions, inspirations, etc.

I’m 39 — an explorer and sometimes web developer. My wife and I live in the high desert of New Mexico at the base of the Sangre de Cristo mountains.

Aug. 2009 – Inspired by the rich, luscious, bold black-on-red title sequence of Valkyrie the movie, I name this, my very first WordPress theme, Valkyrie 1.0.

I wanted to capture first and foremost that richness, that boldness…and I also tried to give it a slight 40’s office look with paper/stamp/typewritten/handwritten elements. Beyond that, I tried not to take myself too seriously.

Regarding typeface, I used Futura for the title, because I love its bold, poster, headline quality, and Newton for the handwritten look.

I targeted screens with 1024×768 or better resolution, and checked the site in the major modern browsers: Firefox 3, Safari 3/4, Chrome 2, Opera 9, and IE 7/8 (sorry IE6). Hopefully it works for you.

Valkyrie 1.0 is built on top of the WordPress Default 1.6 theme by Michael Heilemann.

My toolbox:

  • WordPress 2.8
  • TopStyle 3.5
  • FileZilla 3.2
  • Photoshop CS3
  • Firebug 1.4
