Kinda freaky

by wil — Mar 25, 2011

One of the light bulbs in my bathroom fixture burnt out the other day, so I went to the store and bought some “daylight” bulbs, because I figured daylight’s good. But when I popped the new bulb into the fixture, I realized it didn’t match the other bulbs…at all. Not even close. Actually, there’s no way it could match both bulbs, because they don’t match either, but they’re at least in the same family. So…now I have three mismatched bulbs. The one on the left is sort of a warm, butter-yellow cream. The new middle bulb is a strong, cool blue-white — something you might see in a laboratory setting. And the one on the right is kind of a warm, pink-tinged peach. So now, when I look at my face in the mirror, one half is usually sort of blue-white and the other half is either pinky-peach or butter-cream. It’s a bit disconcerting.

Of course, I could put in all new matching bulbs and reuse the older bulbs in different fixtures, but part of me wants to tough it out and see what happens if I continue this odd-lighting psych experiment.

Well, if you wore makeup, you’d probably end up with very weird mottling (different application on different parts of your face from the different lighting). But, I’m guessing you don’t.

Hmm…this bathroom doubles as the guest bathroom, so I may need to replace the bulbs if only for the sake of our guests.
