New Year, New Decade, New Goals

by wil — Dec. 29, 2009

Some of these are goals for 2010, some are goals for the 2010s, some are lifetime goals. I’m writing them here so I’ll see them and you’ll see them; thus, the whole universe will be watching my progress. I’ll try to keep you updated at semi-regular intervals regarding said progress.

I forgot to have children.

  • Cut out sugar/sweets for a month (January)
  • Have kid(s)
  • Write a polished/publishable work of fiction (short story, novella, screenplay, etc.)
  • Visit Nepal (or Bhutan or northern India)
  • Get in touch with the really real — continue my fledgling meditation practice
  • Continue to swim/exercise regularly
  • Go backpacking/camping at least once a year (seriously, do not let another backpack-less year pass by!)
  • Sit less
  • Say “yes” more
  • Be the change I want to see in the world

Shout-outs to Ponies and Unicorns, Not Your Average Ordinary, and Profound Nonsense. Thanks for the inspiration.

P.S. Happy New Year!

Great list Wil, and thanks for the shout out. Good luck with the baby makin!!

Aww, thanks for the shoutout. This is a great list. I’d love to know how you do with the first item — more importantly, does no sugar/sweets mean no fruit?? Because I think that’s the only way I’d survive a month (though shockingly, despite all my baking, I don’t have a mean sweet tooth). And I love the last one. I think about that a lot, precisely what I can do. I don’t know if I have the precisely right answer yet, but I’m working on it. I’m a work-in-progress, I guess.

That is a good list! I plan to cut out sweets in January, but only for 16 days since my birthday falls on the 17th and there is no way I would skip cake and ice cream for health on my bday.

And didn’t your tagline used to be “The Dude Abides”? If so, you may be interested in this book review I just saw this morning:

Brandi, I haven’t quite made up my mind regarding the status of fruit in this venture, but I will be avoiding it at least part of the month.

Imperatrix, cool — we can be no-sugar support buddies. ;-) Thanks for the link (yes, my tagline was “The Dude Abides”, I switched it a few weeks ago…just felt like a change).

I should cut out sugar too but so far it hasn’t happened yet. As for #2, I’m just going to assume your wife is in aggreement with you on that one? : ) I have to say – having kids (well, a kid), which a lot of work, has been a really great adventure.

Happy belated New Year to you, too! I love your goals. What a wonderful life you lead to get to dream of such things.
